The Viennese wafer, est. 1890

When Josef Manner opened a small store for chocolate bars and fig coffee in the heart of Vienna in 1890, there was only one thing missing: his own chocolate. No sooner said than done. Not long after, Chocoladenfabrik Josef Manner moved into the 17th district of Vienna, where the classic, the Original Neapolitan Wafer, is still made.

 A classic and a global success – and still vegan. Now Fairtrade too.

Manner wafers have become the brand's most popular vegan product – not least thanks to their cinematic Hollywood appearance with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The classic product has been purely plant-based since 1898, and nothing has changed in this respect – except the size of the company: roughly 700 employees export Manner wafers to more than fifty countries. Since 2021, all Manner products feature the Fairtrade cocoa label – a crispy delight for all.
